NSW SKILLED WORK REGIONAL VISA (Subclass 491)

Skilled migrants can live , work and study in a designated regional area of NSW for a period of 5 years on this visa. This is a provisional and point tested visa for skilled workers.

Currently, there are two pathways to NSW nomination under this visa:

PATHWAY 1- Apply directly to Investment NSW if you have an established work history with a regional NSW- based employer.

PATHWAY 2– Be invited to apply by Investment NSW

Priority target sectors

The NSW target sectors are industry sectors having critical skills shortages in NSW and include,

  • Health
  • Education
  • Informationad n Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Infrastructure
  • Agriculture

Residency requirements

Onshore candidates-You must be currently residing in NSW and have continuously resided in NSW for a minimum period of 3 months.

Offshore candidates- You must be currently residing offshore and have continuously resided offshore for a minimum period of three months.

Work experience

You do not have to be currently working (or have previously worked) in NSW in your nominated (or closely related) occupation to be eligible for nomination.

Criteria for Claiming Skilled Employment- Candidates can only claim skilled employment from

  1. Skills Assessor’s Date- The date your skills assessor officially recognises you as skilled, provided this date is explicitly dated on your skills assessment
  2. Qualifying Study Completion Date: If the skills assessor does not specify this date, you may only claim skilled employment from the date you completed your qualifying study.
