Effective 1 July 2024, Visitor visa holders and Temporary Graduate visa holders will no longer be able
to apply for a Student Visa onshore. The Australian government has closed these two pathways as
part of the Migration Strategy announced previously. The new rule announced today by the Minister
of Home Affairs Claire O’Neil are aimed and described to close the loopholes that allow students and
other temporary visa holders to stay in Australia.
